oil fork question

Recommended Posts

i apparently have a serious leak from one of my front suspensions

i think quite a lot of oil leaked out during a couple of hard rides

does the lack of oil create any damage or does it just soften the suspension

thanks

Lack of fluid is going to cause the internals to wear faster. It will also create a serious imbalance between the two forks, which will put a lot of stress on the axle, the clamp, etc. The forks will be working against each other.

If you care about the bike lasting, get the seals replaced.

The most serious damage is if the forks are out of oil, bottoming can occur easier. Bottoming hard can damage the forks. But the forks hold a lot of oil. They are probably not dry, just telling you to fix them.
