My '92 250 won't idle with choke off=puzzling

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give all the facts up front:thumbsup:

Bike was running fine but I recently split the cases to fix a crack in the left side case due to a broken chain, all is good there now. While I had the engine apart I replaced the all the seals including the crank seals, gaskets etc... I've owned this bike for 12 years jetted the same, it always ran good.

Now it starts and runs fine but won't idle with choke off even when fully warmed up. I rode for 45 mins to see if it would clear up, but no luck. It did not foul the plug once in that time, it did seem to spooge though.

What I have done so far is clean the carb(original PJ28 stock jetting) twice (paying close attention to the idle jet) with carb cleaner and compressed air.

Adjusted the a/f screw from 1-2 turns out.

Choke/idle knob turned all the way from up/down no change.

New air filter, plug, gas,oil.

My first thought is/was the pilot jet was clogged, but now am wondering if a bad crank seal waould act like this?

My next move is to check compression, reeds, float level, air leaks?

Anything else/thoughts???
