Cordless Impact driver question

I am thinking of buying one to help removing a counter shaft sprocket bolt, clutches, etc,

what are some good models that any of you use? Are they good enough to not consider Pnuematic? Portability would be a plus and not having to invest in air compressor, generator would be a plus.

I am looking at something like this:

I use 3 different ones in my shop. 1 Dewalt 18v and 2 Makita's 14.4 the 14.4 is a little weak for axles and such The 18v dewalt is the most used tool I have. Myy mechanics are always taking it. :0

I have this one, it works great, I love it. When I was shopping I compared IMP (Impact Per Minute) and RPM. This beats all of the ones I was looking. 2800IPM, 2900RPM, and 1600inlbs of touque. The Dewalt has 2700ipm and 1330inlbs of torque. The Porter Cable is WAY less expensive.

We have a bunch of cordless impacts and work and they all pretty much suck on anything that takes some force. Nothing can compare to air.

I use a little bosch 10v for almost all my smaller faster removal and initial install. Gotta be careful to do your torquing with a torque wrench as the impact will strip a bolt quick fast and in a hurry. Contrary to what many will say an electric/battery impact is EXTREMELY powerful.

I have a milwaulkee 18v. It is a great tool, but has nothing compared to either of my air powered impacts. My buddy has a makita 18v that he says has more power than the milwaulkee, but he is a bit of an exaggerater. Full of crap usually! You can fit the air wrench into tighter spaces, too.

Yeah, I have heard that the milwaulkee's are a good, but I do have to agree that the Makita's work really well. My buddy uses the Milwaulkee's and they are durable, but under powered compared to the Makita's. They are also big and bulky. I can't bag on the longevity of the tool however....

I've owned all the brands and Hilti is the best with a life time warranty. Still it wont take off those torqd primary and hub nuts. Need air or a pry bar for those. ?

I wouldn't buy nada from HarborFreight.

That impact won't even come close to my Mack impact guns.

I have the Makita 18v impact and love it. It's small, powerful, and the battery lasts awhile. For dirt bikes its great for disassembly. But I always start the bolt by hand when reassembling....too easy to crossthread and/or overtorgue.

There nothing on a dirt bike that a cordless impact shouldn't be able to handle

You're right, that doesn't compare to the cordless impacts. The one from Harbor Freight is electric and is weaker in rpm and most importantly is way weaker in ipm. So you are right, the cordless are in a class above the HF.

WELL it your money...spend away....why would I care but with 240lbs this inpact works well for me. Clutch baskets, lug nuts on my trailers, wheel on my trucks.... anything your mack will do cheeper

Actually glad this thread has appeared - thinking of buying one myself at the moment. Would love an air one, but compressor not too practical on a lot of my jobs.

MAKITA!

I use them at work every day(commercial construction), and I own one at home. I like the 18v LXT series becasue all the tools use the same battery.

The small impact driver is great fort most nuts and bolts. But when you get into the nitty gritty, nothing beats a real pneumatic impact gun.
