LanceI Posted April 12, 2010 A friend just purchased a well used 03 250f. He changed the air filter, changed the oil. He put a few hours on it then it died on him randomly and would not restart. I pulled the head off and found a broken intake valve. He is a poor trail rider and wants to put minimal money into it, but still keep it somewhat reliable. The piston and cylinder still seem to be in good shape. Other than 3 new valves, shims, and top end gaskets is there anything else that must be replaced? Is worth spending the bucks to change over to stainless?
ronbuell My Rides (17) Posted April 12, 2010 Don't change to stainless, you have to get springs and keepers as well, really expensive. Go back all stock. Be sure to get the valve seats cut and get stem seals. Also, check the cam chain. $17 for a new one is cheap insurance. Check the small sprocket on the crank too. If the teeth are sharp and pointed, it needs a new crank, $200 HotRods is a good replacement.
Birdy426 Posted April 12, 2010 Should put new valve springs in as well, even if OEM, but they are cheap...
