76 MR250 Still no spark

Recommended Posts

I posted this on another thread but I thought I should start a new fresh one to get some newer input.

Just bought a 76 MR250 a few months ago and after cleaning out a little critters home in the airbox, into the carb, into the top end... Putting it all back together... I can see spark coming from the points but still no spark from the plug. I changed the plug twice to make sure. I checked my coil with an ohmmeter and it shows to have current running through it. If I have a bad condenser that wouldn't make a difference in starting, would it? The only other thing I can think of, is my wiring is bad, but it all looks in pretty good shape. Any help would be appreciated.

You shouldn't see any sparking at all across the points. Since you also have no spark, the condensor may be bad.

The coil resistance readings I've gotten are usually around one ohm from the primary (input) to ground, and around 10,000 ohms or so from the secondary (plug cap) to ground, both with the coil disconnected.
