Bike cuts outs.

Recommended Posts

I have an 06 YZ250F. When under a load it cuts out. In other words it won't run too bad, but when you give it a quick snap on the gas it will cut out. At high RPM it will act like it's wants to backfire.

I'm am 98 percent sure it is not the carb. We had two different carbs on it and it acts exactly the same way. Could it be the ignition? Can they be checked with a regular meter? Thanks

Put in a new sparkplug. While the plug is out, ground it and turn the motor over and check the spark and make sure its a hot blue spark. If not, check grounds on the harness and you might even pull the flywheel and make sure all the screws are tight on the stator.

Pull the fuel line from the carb, put it in a cup and turn on the petcock and make sure it's flowing a full stream. You don't want a blocked up vent line on the tank cap. Then plug it back in, loosen the drain plug on the carb float bowl and turn on the gas again. You should get a smaller but fast stream again. That will confirm the carb is getting fuel and it is flowing properly. If its running slow, then take the carb apart and clean the float valve and make sure it is shutting off properly too.
