Honda 2003 trx250ex transfer case noise?

couldnt find anything via extensive google search, obviously not a common problem but

this thing makes a strange swoosh swoosh sound when moving, its not with RPM, but with vehicle speed, all speeds...kinda gets louder, the faster you go

throttle on/off dont matter

sounds like, if you were to take some cardboard and scrape it on the driveway or street w/e ..lol best way to describe it ? like cardboard on cement

doesnt sound like metal to metal

drives fine, its definitely coming from the transfer case, left side

just wondering what it might be? before i take it apart this winter

Is this an engine noise or a frame/drivetrain noise? If you turn the engine off and coast down a hill, does it still make the same noise?

There is no "transfer case" on this 2wd quad, so I assume you may be refering to the rear final drive of the shaft drive system (????). The brakes are inside this hub, so it might be that you have a brake shoe rubbing?

Or is the noise up in the transmission area???

took it out for 2 hour spin and it sounds different....

more clunky slappy now....

coming from the motor, transmission area, left side of quad

coast its almost not noticeable, and gets louder under acceleration 0-1/4 throttle and only slightly more louder 1/4-full throttle

seems to make the noise with vehicle speed, not rpm

not sure how to engage clutch to stop the motor from engine braking, while coasting, cept keep it in a high gear, but ya...louder under acceleration

Just stop at the top of a hill, put it in neutral and let it roll down with the motor off. That will insure that it isn't frame/drivetrain noise vs engine noise.

There are very bulletproof engines/transmissions! If engine, does the noise sound down low or up high. Have you adjusted your valves lately?

ok, i know a good steep road i can test it on, but its in town lol ?

have not adjusted the valves yet this year, but noise is coming from the bottom of the motor

ok, took it down a nice fun steep hill, engine off, in neutral

NOISE FREE....cept the tires hehehehehehe

guess ill have to wait till i pull it apart this winter to see what it is
