bog or starving for fuel

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 YZ250, when I hit about half throttle it feels like it hits a rev limiter. I'm new to jetting so I am wondering if it is bogging, or if the float height is out, and it is starving for fuel. 1/4 to half throttle response is good, it starts and idles fine. I haven't opened the carb up yet so I don't know what jets are in it now, or where the clip on the needle is at.

Hi there. If it's bogging it's usually an indication of a lean condition. You might want to check your needle and see what clip position it is on and also check what main you have in the bike. Other things like loose carb boots and main seal leaks (on the flywheel side) can also cause this problem. As you mentioned, it may also be your float height. Sorry it's a lot but not as bad as it sounds. Read the jetting sticky and go from there. Also check your reeds to make sure they are in good shape. Please ask more questions if you need to. Here's a link to a great thread that should help you.
