what are those really steep sand dune looking things?

they are called "hoodoos" or "cinder cones"...they are primarily hot ash from the volcano that erupted here eons ago...the ash fell on trees, cooled immediately and then sculpted by the wind and rain...traction is non-existent on them..

Did you try to ride on them??  Lol

I found your thread because I was in Ruidoso last weekend, and all I could think about was riding my dirt bike on those mountains.  My brother and I are already planning a trip ASAP.

We would love to find a cabin to rent where we can ride straight out of the front door.  Any idea where we could find this?  We both have wives who will want to come (need a cabin or house), but they and the kids don't ride (kids are toddlers/babies).

Almost all of the single track in the Jemez is closed now.  The travel management plan in that went into place in 2014 effectively shutdown just about all of the single track trails.  It would be illegal to now ride what was posted in this thread.  Sucks, but that's what's been going on all over the national forests.

This thread makes me want to cry when I remember how good we had it for so many years.

Yep, the eco nazis have ruined it.  Just like what they are trying to do this time in the Rico-Dolores area south of Telluride. :foul:

does anyone know if the trails off of 144 at any point loop back? Every time we've ridden there its been a in and back trip

Also what, if anything, can you tell me about the motorcycle trails off of 416? where is that exactly? these maps are terrible... or I'm just terrible at reading them
