How do I know if my E is overheating?

Recommended Posts

I have DS'ed 2003 DRZ400E and like we all know, it has no fan. I ride mostly around the city and Houston is pretty dang hot. I know my KLR will get hot quickly if the fan doesn't turn on, as I found out a few weeks ago after I forgot to plug it in finishing up a valve check.

Seems the DRZ would do the same thing, how do you know when hot is too hot?

When the DRZ-E starts to get too hot the cooling fluid overflows to the reservoir you see on the left side of the bike, and it´s also

normal for some steam to come out of the reservoir vent. This usually happens when the bike is at very low speed(or stopped). it´s normal don t worry.

Best thing to do is to get the bike moving(the faster the better) because there is no fan, second thing is to try not to keep the engine running too long when stopped.

And keep checking the coolant level

I use one of these little temperature stickers on my E which cost around $10. I put it on the block where I can see it when I'm on the bike. At traffic lights etc I look and check it isn't climbing quickly. Not the most accurate but better than nothing.
