Stripped Out Crankcase Hole, Any Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Check the full depth of the hole as compared to the length of the case screw. There might be enough thread left to allow you to clean up the stripped threads with a tap and install a longer screw to use the new undamaged threads. Get a longer screw then necessary and grind it off so you can size it to the full depth.... it that doesn't work you'll need to get a thread insert to repair the damage...

Helicoils or TimeSerts work quite well. Use TimeSerts if you bugger up the Helicoil.

If you can't be trusted with power tools, a local job-shop machinist should be able to help out for a reasonable price.

I would *not* take it to a MC shop for a Helicoil job.

Also, don't use JB Weld - it's good stuff, but not that good.
