Bottom end rebuild for a '93 YZ 125

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a 1993 YZ 125 from a friend and after giving it some general maintenance since it had been sitting for about 2 years, started it up and it ran for a few seconds and then cut out, and the engine was completely seized. We took the top end off and the piston and cylinder were fine, so I'm looking to do a bottom end rebuild on it. I noticed that Wiseco and a few others make bottom end rebuild kits/crankshaft assemblies, but I can't find anything specifically for a '93. Wiseco and Hot Rods only sell crankshafts back to '98. Would a 98-01 fit a 93? Or am I stuck with finding a crankshaft/bearings on Ebay or buying OEM?

Sorry but the '98 crankshaft wont work on your bike. Anyhow I suggest you split the cases and take a look...you might not need a new crankshaft. When I rebuilt the bottom end on my '95 YZ I reused the crank, just changed the main bearings, seals, rod, etc. but kept the crank.

Hope this helps, good luck.
