Recommended Posts

Mines still running a stocker & it actually runs pretty good, but i must admit that i would like to bung a pumper carby on the old girl. Their pretty pricey though.

I'm thinking if aint broke then im buggered if im gonna fix it. lol

If it ain't broke don't fix it is a good rule of thumb. If you can't live without tinkering, you'll be drawn towards some alternative to the stock carb some day. The smaller the carb intake, the higher the air velocity (venturi) at lower RPM. Conversely, the small throat size limits fuel delivery at higher RPM.

There are tons of KLXers with stock carbs, stock carbs with DJ kits (excellent option if you're just needing better response), 33mm Mikuni pumpers, 35 and 37mm Keihin FCR pumpers. I don't think any of them complain about their set-ups. A 37mm FCR is definitely a project to fit into the small space in the KLX frame. Grinding, cutting and sometimes welding is required, so smaller pumpers may be a better option.
