The death of my base valve!

Recommended Posts

KYB is selling this as an individual part

I have yet to find someone in Australia that is holding them in stock, or even stocking genuine KYB parts. I can source the entire base valve from Honda or Yamaha but its quite expensive and on a lengthy back order. I have organised some from the states anyway, but annoying that I cant get them straight from a dealer down here.

I second shoc doc...

I just use my "feel" developed over years of screw ups....

Snug plus just a bit more.

EDIT: On the aluminum kyb stems...you can just hold the assembly by hand sometimes and tighten that way. Right about as tight as most can hold the assembly is about right....

I agree with the last two post. No torque wrench. I have twisted off several in the last couple years, hand tighten. locking nuts on the stem can also make you feel safe.

When hand tightening I like to get it torqued just enough so that the piston doesn't spin on the stem.
