Engine Gargles High RPMs

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have a bit of a problem.

Recently, I had to replace my spark plug cap and cable.

Just after finishing, I took it out for a ride.

After it has warmed up, in the high RPMs it tends to gargle.

Everything is crisp and it makes that nice 2-stroke sound then when it hits the high RPMs it just gargles and won't go any higher.

The bike never use to do this and would have a very nice crisp sound all the way up in the higher RPMs.

Any suggestions?

Update:

Spark plug was gapped WAYYYYY too big.

Twice of what it should be. This is what was causing the gargle. Burning way to hot to perform properly.

Gap was set at .76!!

Brought it down to .36 and runs like gem.

Hopefully this can be used as a reference to help someone else expereincing similiar problems.

GAP YOUR PLUGS RIGHT!

Hey Brian,

Sounds like you have lost some spark energy...... check your work out again! Did you use a quality replacement? Dialectic lube could help. What about your plug gap? To much gap at high RPM will cause misses. Wider gaps at low revs helps torque. It,a balance.

EDIT: I type too slow on my droid you got it figured!
