2004 225 engine cuts out during hard acceleration

Recommended Posts

My 2004 225 engine pulls strong under full throttle , but after a couple of seconds will cut out and stutter as if running out of fuel.

The fuel flows freely out of the petcock , and I have gone through the carb multiple times...Am running 145 main jet ....Sometimes the problem seems to go away , and engine starts and idles well....

Usually runs well enough for trail riding , but riding hard in the dunes is near impossible as the engine starts cutting out just when the power is needed.

I am starting to wonder if there is an issue with the float level. What is the best way to verify the float bowl is maintaining the proper fuel level ?

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

Seems like the 145 main jet was too big.

I bought the bike this past May with the 145 main jet installed , and it seemed to run excellent back then.

Today , I swapped with a 130 main jet , and the problem went away. I have seen other threads where a 135 or 137 main jet is recommended , and I will try that next.

3 turns out on the pilot screw seems to work the best.
