acct fully extended?

i have a 05 400s with 7,000 miles ive been hearing a loud ticking noise. i checked my acct and it was fully extended. So i just ordered a mcct. I guess my question is should i replace the cam chain as well or will it be fine with the mcct. or anything else i should look for Thanks for the help

how do you know it was fully extended? when you remove it, it fully extends because it is sprung.When reinstalling you have to reset the acct. Its still a good idea to replace the chain and mcct

Welllll, kind of. IF you do not remove the ACCT correctly it will extend as you remove it, providing a false observation that is was extended in the engine.

IF you correctly remove the hex cap and spring under it, then when you remove the ACCT, it will be in the same condition (length) as it was installed.

You must REMOVE the center bolt, REmOVE the spring, then remove the Allen bolts and pull the tensioner out.

Only on the latest version of teh ACCT..

The early version you would have to use a thin flate blade screw driver, and "wind" up the spring.
