steel inserts in frame

I would like to know if the steel inserts in the X frame can be removed and then reset into the frame?

I want to anodize the frame but was told the steel inserts have to be removed due the process of bonding the anodizing (something to do with the positive to negitive charging and the dis simular metals)

Any help would be great.

Why not just powder coat it? It's tougher than anodizing. (yes, even hard anodizing) Then you don't have to deal with the dissimilar metals.

basically because everybody does powder coat or polish .

anodizing fades pretty badly, powdercoating not so much.

Good high quality anodizing won't fade (most colors atleast, red will almost always fade some). But it will scratch very easily.

Removing the inserts is a pain in the a$$. I've done it and had to use new ones as they are always loose the 2nd time around.

Any automotive body shop supplier will have the inserts. You will also need the tool to install them.

We done it on a road race bike for the same reason. We used insertsdirect for the replacements. Everything available, clinch inserts & rivet nuts. We already had the tool, which is useful ?
