Adding grease nipple to frame position?

Recommended Posts

Could I ask you good folk to recommend the best position to add a grease zerk/nipple to the frame on my 1985 XR250 so I can grease up my steering, stem bearings?

I know how to drill, tap a hole, I'd just appreciate those more knowledgeable than me on the positioning. Left, bottom/top, middle etc.

Anyone with a picture showing theirs would be most helpful.

Thanks,Chris.

I've done this on several bikes. I place the zerk at the center position between the two head bearings and fill the whole cavity with grease.

Just make sure that the head tube doesn't open into the rest of the frame as it does on many bikes. If it does you need to plug it up, otherwise you will end up filling your whole frame with grease.

What about bikes with Steering Stem Mounted Oil Coolers? Any Concern with tons of grease oozing out?
