Shimming valves - a couple of questions.

Guys,

I am going to install E cams in my S motor, and check the valve clearances.

Will they be much different after installing the E cams? as I can't necessarily get the shims the same day, so may have to run the E cams with whatever clearances I find after installing them - presumably if they are close to tolerance it's no big deal to run them another 30 miles.

How do people generally measure the shims that are already in there? I have taken the shims out of an old head that is knackered, 2 of them are clearly marked up i.e. 370, but 2 of them appear to have no marking on them at all. Is this a caliper job? How accurate would the calliper need to be?
