2010 Linkage Pull Rods

I've been pretty happy with my '10 YZ 450, particularly after I had my suspension revalved for my riding style. I read in MXA about the "wiggle when entering corners" that their test riders describe. I normally take these comments with a grain of salt, (gearing it down 1 tooth, etc) but I find this is exactly the sensation I have been trying to pin down for a while. They say it is cured by a 1.5 mm longer pull arm on the linkage. This allows the bike to set lower in the rear (by 10 mm) and allows different options with sag and fork height. Pro Circuit is their vendor of choice, but they have none available. Are there other reputable purveyors of suspension components that could supply this part..?

here is a print out that shows the connecting rod fits much more than the 2007 WR 450F, it fits several years of the YZ450/250 also.

What is the difference in lenght between the 2010/11 rod and the WR/etc part #5XC 2217f-90...I don't have a problem using a Yamaha interchangeable part, but I need to know what the difference is between the parts, is it longer, shorter, and how much..?

2010-2011 are identical. I have the RIDE ENGINEERING one on mine and I love how it made the bike handle. www.rideengineering.com

It helps and keeps the thing from wanting to knife into the corner. It tracks better in accelerating Bump, doesnt have the harshness in the midstroke. It lowers the back end 10mm so obvioulsy it is longer then stock. Click on the link I provided above and read about it. I dont know about the WR.

I don't know the exact length but the WR part is slightly longer. I know the PC part is 1.5mm longer. Sorry, I didn't have the exact info, I just copied the part info from another thread when I saw it some time ago. I'll do a search to see if I can find it again.

I know the pc part lowers the rear end 10mm. Then people run 100mm of sag (instead of 105mm with the stock link to slacken the head angle) and raise the forks 5mm to lower the front end an equal amount. I think the WR part lowered the rear end 12mm.

I added 5mm spacers (preload to raise) to the front forks to accomplish mostly the same thing. I now run 100mm of rear sag. I couldn't drop the forks any further as I am running them flush with the triple clamps.

Here I found the other thread. Looks like the WR part lowers the rear end 11mm.

The WR link is going to be longer, same as the PC link, for less than half the price. It lowers the rear, which makes the head angle more shallow, which slows the steering and makes the bike more stable at speed, but "lazier". You might like the effect, or you might find that if you adapt to it, you like the quicker handling of the stock geometry better.

Is there no risk that the rear wheel will hit the rear fender/subframe when using a longer link????? It lowers the bike 10-15 mm and generates a less progressive rising rate. So for it not to hit, the stock clearance must be in excess of 25 mm. Anyone know?

Thanks, Grey, I had read that post and couldn't find it when I needed it for reference. Have WR parts on the way. I'll check back in with a report of how it changes the handling in a couple weeks..

How will the longer linkage differ from the top out plate that shortens the shock lenght by 3 mm?

Enzo sells the plate for $40 and it's claimed to lower the rear by 10mm.

I need to go with one or the other. Anyone the enzo part?

adding 5mm preload will drastically change the forks........may make them harsher on the chop and it definetly speed up the rebound..........did you account for the changes?.........think i would rather lower the rear instead of adding that much preload to a fork

Why would it do either? Preload does not change the spring rate, and until you have too little sag to allow proper extension under unloading conditions, additional preload will not alter the damping characteristics or operation of the suspension unit. It simply positions the fork or shock higher or lower at a base loaded condition.

there is a reason tuners and manufacturers run a certain amt of preload..........5mm is alot of preload on top of what was already there........i have ridden during testing and preload effects the suspension very noticeably imo....but go ahead throw another 5mm in there and see how it feels.........

it will make the current spring rate feel stiffer

Add or subtract twice that from the rear shock (only because it's easier to do) and see what effect it has on damping or spring rate (none). Forks are no different. Obviously there are limits, but 5mm won't approach it.

That being said, I prefer not to add preload to forks in most cases because I like them a bit further down in the stroke for other reasons, so if I were to want a shallower head angle, and decide to do so by adjusting suspension, I'd rather make the adjustments to the rear than raise the front with preload.

      I have a 2008 YZ450F with a stock header pipe and Pro Circuit T-4 Slip-On Exhaust. I'm 99% sure the slip on is shot because its loud as hell and when I take it off and shake it it rattles. I would repack it but the screws are all stripped ect.
      Anyways I've gone over the carb multiple times and I've got it running pretty well. The only issue I have with the bike is that it sputters and pops around 1/2 throttle when I hold it there. When I give it full throttle from any RPM it runs great or when I give it about 3/4 throttle it spins up like a top to redline.
      Initially the popping and sputtering was way worse I made the situation better by moving the pilot jet up in a few sizes from a 45 (stock) to a 62. The issue has gotten way better since then but I'm not super sure what to do from here. Should I keep moving my pilot jet up in size because that's a pretty large jump right? I tried changing my needle clip position but that didn't help much if anything it just made starting it worse and little to no impact on the ride.
      Any input on this would be helpful. I don't want to buy other slip on. Also as for the rest of the carb I'm very sure everything else in it is what it needs to be at. I've replaced all the gaskets and O-rings cleaned all the jets, valve holes ect. fixed the accelerator pump timing. I just thinks its strange that my pilot jet size is going so far from the stock 45, but all symptoms point to the bike running lean.

      Excel Takasago 17x3 front and 17x5 rear supermoto wheels with Metzler M3 tires in very lightly used condition. Less than 200 miles total on the setup. Warp 9 spokes. Rear has a Talon hub with 45T Sunstar steel sprocket and OEM rear disc, and front has a polished OEM Yamaha WR450F hub (for the stock speedometer), with a Motomaster 320mm disc. Included is a DID gold o-ring chain, 14T front sprocket, and front brake caliper adapter for a truly turn key setup. Everything is in excellent condition, not a single scratch on these wheels. Came off my '11 WR450F, but will fit many different Yamahas with 20mm front and 22mm rear axles. Asking $1400 plus shipping.
