XR500 '81 rear shock adjustment

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what the knob on the end of the rear shock shaft adjusts, compression only, rebound, a combination? and is screwing into the shaft the direction for harder. The bike seems to have too much rebound, pounds the crap out of me on choppy uphills.

It's a damping adjuster, so a combination of compression and rebound. It has 1-4 positions, with 4 being the hardest.

Thanks, can only get three clicks on mine but probably hasn't been serviced since it was built, gone to full soft knocked off a bit of bump and a heap of rebound, looking forward to riding it now.
