Rear tire, varying terrain, recommendations, 250 xcf-w

My S12 is half worn in the center luggs. Is it time to replace? The outside lugs look like new.

I have been reading how the Michelin S12 doesn't do very well in rocky terrain. I ride in the south east and the terrain can go from wet one day to hard the next with rock gardens mixed in with creek crossing and dirt hill climbs. Anybody have a recommendation on what tire to go with? Another S12?

I really like the maxxis desert IT on my 450. It grips good in mud, hardpack, and rocks and is predictable. Here is what it looks like after 65 miles, with a little pavement to connect to trails.

I use the Maxxis IT, non-desert model. I feel the sidewall on the desert is too stiff and gives a harsher ride.

the pirelli works great for me

the only place I have had problems with one was in snow over 6" deep
