can too much oil damage an engine?

i recently changed the oil in my 02 yz250f and made a mistake of not looking up how much oil to put in. the bike service manual calls for 1.6 liters of oil, I put in 2 liters and it is quit a way up the stick. im not sure if it really affects the motor though, the oil is held in the frame of the bike and in that case shouldnt it be ok to have a little extra without affecting the performance? ive look this up on google and the answers have varied quit a bit, some say "perfectly fine, go ride" some say " its not good? any help would help thanks

Just drain a little out til it's at the right mark on the dipstick.

drain some out. It's not good running a bike that over filled.

do you guys run 10w40 or 20w50

I've always used 10w40.

Yes too much oil can cause damage. Are you sure about 1.6 litres???? Any 250's I have owned hold between 1.1 - 1.2 litres.

ive always ran 10W40 full synthetic. i think since the older bikes stored oil in the frames they need more.

It could be different for the older 250Fs especially the ones that take the oil in the frame?
