Rattling noise at idle

Recommended Posts

On a 2010 450 EXC with 57 hrs I am getting a loud rattling noise when bike is at idle. I have been searching online, and I'm reading this may be a normal noise??? The noise sound like the cam chain is slapping around. The noise is only at idle,as soon as you give a little throttle the noise goes away. Before I carry to a shop and have to pay the shop labor rate, I would rather fix myself if not to complex. I appreciate any advise available.

Hopefully someone here with more knowledge than me can confirm if a Dirt Tricks cam chain tensioner will fix your cam chain noise. They are about $80.

Good Luck

Does the noise go away when you pull in the clutch? There are a lot of posts about engine noise that goes away when you pull in the clutch. Some people have had problems with the nut that holds the cutch basket on coming loose. If the nut is tight, it may simply be normal noise as the KTMs are known for making clutch noise. I asked my dealer about it, and he said they make the same noise right out of the crate. Just a thought.
