Is this a good sprocket/chain kit?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm going to replace the sprockets and chain on my 87XR250R

I found this kit at RockyMountain

I currently have a 14/50 combo on the bike

It looks like the this kit has has a48 tooth rear, not sure what it comes with for the primary.

I mostly do trail riding with some logging roads thrown in.

Should I stick with my current setup, or would this kit be good?

Thanks!

That link says the kit contains stock sprockets. Stock for your bike was 13/48(3.69). Your current 14/50(3.57) is just slightly higher gearing than stock. The stock 13/48 would be better for technical trail riding and climbing.

The reviews seems good for that kit.

Cool Thanks,

I'll probably order this kit, unless someone has had bad experiences with it

what do you want it do? More low end? Top end? The same? 1t won't be noticable change at all. If you want more grunt, keep the 50 and drop to 13 in front.

If it's about the same, that will be fine with me.

I was more worried about the quality, just wanted to make sure that it would be something that would last and not break right away.

I put those spockets and the x-ring chain on my XR4 a year ago and it is holding up great. Seems to be a good way to go and save a few bucks.
