metal Reed stoppers, 96 RM250

I went to change my reeds, and it looks like the previous owner removed the metal reed stoppers (the curved metal pieces that sit outside the reeds). Is there any benefit to doing this? I've been running the bike like this and it has been fine, I was wondering if I should even bother ordering new reed stoppers for it. The old reeds looked to be fiber reeds and the new ones I have are also fiber (Boyeson superstock).

Thanks in advance

my 1997 rm125 has had the reed stops removed also. Doestnt affect it any. i was told that the reed stops are basically like a rev limiter. My reeds are carbon fiber, not sure of the name brand though.
