shock shaft extender

I ran across a pair of 08kxf a 250 and 450. They both had a sleeve first thing on the shock shaft before the top out plate as to act as a shaft extender. the 250 showa shock had a 5.5mm sleeve, while the 450 Kyb had a 3mm total of machined washers. What's the use of this? Is it really a plus to increase shock travel? I guess this would change the sag numbers at least a few mm.

yes sounds like it

It will raise the rear of the bike and move the starting location of the suspension along the rising rate curve. It can have similar effects as using different linkage components.
