Has anyone dropped a valve, and not replaced the crank?

I know there is a risk of bending the rod, and I know there can be a lot of theoretical discussion about it, but I'm just interested in hearing from anyone who has dropped a valve into their piston and just done the top end without changing the crank or rod.
