how to tell rings apart

Hi got new rings today but cannot figure out which ring is compression and the other is scraper one is black the other silver no instructions:banghead:any help appreciated.....for a four stroke chinese quad

The thicker black ring is the compression ring. This is usually the top ring. The thinner silver ones will be the scraper rings and these should sit either side of the corrugated oil seal ring.

Generally they are set up like this. The top ring often has a silver colored layer where it contacts the cylinder wall. Second ring is usually the same dark color throughout. The oil ring can be a 3 piece set with 2 thin rings and a spacer or a single perforated ring.
