Opening up the airbox.. over kill?

I was thinking about doing this to my air box to get some more air flow. What do you guys think? I looks to me that it would let to much dirt in. It kind of seems like over kill to me. But would you think its worth it? Or should I just pop in a few uni filter 1 inch vents here's a pic

Totally unnecessary on a 125 and you'll be cleaning dirty air filters twice as often. I would leave the airbox alone.
