California Another Camera thread

Hey Guys

Got my GoPro

16 gig card

2 batteries

Vegas Movie studio software to edit

Here is first attempt

Now, The camera takes awesome vidio

They are MP4 format, cannot edit with windows movie maker, they wont open

That vid raw is about 50meg

So I was told Vegas Movie studio was the software

OK, I got it, It has so many features... bells and whistles, It will take

some time to learn it all (Im very proficient with programming CNC machines,

so Im learning it rather quick)

The problem, The software is still creating giant size files that take

much time to load on U-tube or other internet media outlets.

So please help me out here, This one I posted, I converted it to an

older WMV format and went backwards back to windows movie maker

and used that to knock down the quality and file size to load to U-tube

4 minute vid, 10 meg, Quality, maybe not so good

I am also noticing as I look into this further, a lot of the stuff I see posted

on U-tube is Flash media ... File size vs Quality seems to work better

that way.

So please point me on what direction I should go? I eventually want to

make a shop tour video for my F book page and web site

Any positive input or advice is much appreciated, I like watching everyones

vids posted here and buggy/truck ones as well on other sites

Thanks in advance

Wayne

Per Msgtretired's advice:

Go to www.avs4you.com and try the free version of Video Remaker to see if it works well for you. I was in the same position as yourself and could not get any of the "big name" programs to work without all kinds of issues.

If the free version works well, spend the $59 for access to all the programs on the website. They have all worked absolutely without flaws and are simple to use.

Also per Sarge's recommendation, I use AVS Video Editor. It works great and somewhat easy to use. I video in 720p. A 4 minute video with music is 134 mb; and a 15 minute video with music is 998 mb.

When I first uploaded a 5 minute video to You Tube it took about 6 hours. I finally figured out it was my cable internet speed. I paid the extra $10 per month and got a faster speed which greatly increased my upload speed. I can now do a 5 minute video in 30 minutes.

i still use windows movie maker to edit mine cause its free and easy to use. i just use a free mp4 converter (http://www.squared5.com/) and covert the file to AVI 1st. also, i never really film in 1080. i usually use the r4 setting on my gopro for a smaller file size. heres the last video i took.

There will be MANY low cost, low hour GoPros on the market in the next couple years. People just don't understand going into it how time consuming transferring, editing and producing a quality video really is.

Welcome to the "learning curve" !

Thanks for all the responses, Your vid is 93meg, Its great quality,

but It would take me a week to upload a file that big though my

sat dish, I can down load OK, but my upload 10x slower

A fellow out here just spent two hours here showing me the software

and editing tips. He does a lot of the media stuff here for the Mojave

Spaceport. He basically told me im really restricted to my internet

connection if I want to post any vids with any length and quality.

I see a lot of stuff posted here and other sites I enjoy watching,

But im restricted to my crappy connection for uploading

He got me set up for a start point to match the Go Pro setting

and another on my Sony DV Cam to the Vegas software,So will

go from there

Still learning this stuff, thanks for the replies

Love the video. I would love to have a trail like that in my backyard. You without a good, fast internet connection, are F'ed.

If I had trail like that so close to home I would probably be divorced!

I really like the R3 setting just for the 60fps, its great for crashes:thumbsup:

I don't know why but my movies always seem to be grainy once I upload to youtube even though they look very clear on the big screen.

Here is recent one that is 8:04min and 1.62gb in avi format. I will try the avs program next time.

Maybe you are doing something to the video when you convert. Maybe thats why you have a big black border as well.

Youtube also compresses the video, reducing quality. Vimeo looks better but has restrictions on how much you can upload for free. Also Vimeo is difficult for some to stream because they themselves need more bandwidth to view the better Vimeo video.

Thanks, I would rather have trails out my front gate than the internet

connection,

The camera thing is just another hobby I prolly dont need, but what the heck

its only time and $$

Wayne,

If you have a laptop you can do your upload from Starbucks or some Wi-fi host site in town. I take mine to work to upload.

Like Bolt said, editing HD video is complex stuff. Try to mix in video from a different brand camera at differnent frame rates and you can wast days working on it. The key to efficiency is a repeatable work flow.

Wayne after years of the highest speed broadband at my finger tips we are moving to a place completely off the grid... no city water, sewer, electricity or phone lines ! Loving the dirt comes at a price. I'll be feeling your pain soon. Luckily I'll have killer riding in my back yard now !

My next OHV will be a tractor... LOL

Where are you moving to? At the least we only have a 6 mile drive

into Mojave or Cal City depending on what direction we take.

My Wife and I love it out here, Income has suffered moving the shop

out in the middle of nowhere, but I dont have to pay shop rent and

we have enough buffer property to keep people from building on top

of us. So we like how things turned out.

Where are you moving to?

We are in the valley between Stoddard & JV... 4 minutes from Slash X... and 30 dual sport minutes to the base of the trails heading up the hill to Big Bear & Arrowhead .

Makes my commute to all riding areas 1 to 2 hours closer with the exception of Gorman. Even Ocotillo and AZ are no farther than I was in Huntington.

You think I can get my new OHV Plated... or will I have to go green sticker ?

Sorry for the off topic. Just kinda excited about it at the moment.

About 40 min drive to WW on pavement, can also get to there legally

all green sticker from here also, many different choices to take.

Here is another attempt at playing with the video software, different camera

Kinda corny material, but progressing on learning the software. Better clarity

than the last one I posted

Wind has been blowing like crazy for quit a while, have not had a chance

to get out and take more vids
