You cn pick up like a 2000 - 2004 yz125 for like 1200 to 1600.

And as for the difference between the 125 and the 250, there is a big difference.

The 125 has like 34-36hp and the 250 has like 45-48hp, and the torque of the 250 is awesome!!!!

But since your coming from a 230, i think a 125 will be a good start, but then if you think you can handle the 250, then go with the 250.

I have no clue what your bike is worth but try posting your bike on Craigslist to sell or trade for a YZ. When both parties are getting what they really want they seem to be less concerned about dollar amounts. You never know, it may work out, I've done it several times.

The maintence is about the same, but topend life is usally longer on the 250 than the 125, since on the 125 you ride at super high rpms.

Just think of it as the yz250f, you got a higher revving bike, so with parts moving at 12,000 rpm, there is definatley going to be some wear and tear.

Now as for the 450f, everything inside is gong to last longer like the valves because your only ridig the bike at like 9500rpms.

All in all, i wouldnt even worry about top end life on the 125, both 2 strokes are super fun and reliable.

Im actually thinking a 250 wouldnt be bad for you to start out on, but just be super careful, the 250 is a ton of bike. Just respect it and you will be fine.
