CR 125 bogging??

Recommended Posts

My 2003 CR 125 is bogging a little. Like when you are turning or almost stopped and open it all the way it bogs but when you give it like 3/4 throttle and wait till the revs get up then you can open it all the way. Is this normal on 2 stroke bikes?

My dad said the powervalve was kinda stuck or something when we did the top end. Ill ask him again but he oiled it and said it might loosen itself up. could this be the reason?

I asked him again and he said the spring is rusted so he oiled it to see if it would loosen up

They don't loosen up they get tighter from carbon buildup. The valve needs to be removed and decarbonized. Might as well put in new rings or new piston and rings while in there.

You may also want to richen up your A/f screw and see if that helps the bog at all.

My guess is that the pilot or needle clip is rich maybe both. Didnt really understand where the bog was in your post. If it bogs off idle when you crack the throttle that indicates a rich condition on the pilot.

Ill go out and ride it again wednesday and pinpoint exactly where it is. My dads a mechanic and we have a service manual anyways. Would it bog if i was in second? Because i cant really remember what gear im in. Sorry if any of this doesnt make any sense

It could... but I weigh 230 lbs before gear and still rip around the track on my 125 and it never bogs. Takes a ton of clutch work to keep the RPMs up at times but I can take the gate in 2nd gear without it bogging. So Id say no it shouldnt really bog. The symptoms you describe dont sound like a PV issue to me but anyways, Im willing to bet theres a 90% chance its a jetting issue.

The best way to pinpoint exactly where the bog is is to put a peice of tape on your throttle housing and mark your throttle fully closed and fully open and measure the distance between the two marks and mark 1/2 way and then half way from the mid point to the closed mark and half way to the open mark.

We had a 2003 Honda CR125...quite possibly one of the best bikes we ever had!

We used Maxima Racing USA Castor 927 oil w/ high octane race gas in a 32/1 mix w/ a ProCircuit Pipe. Keep the power valves clean..very clean. Keep the air filter clean, change often. You might have to go up a size or 2 on that main jet but we never done anything. May not be of any help but just some info for you.:smirk:

I dont think its a jetting problem because when we got the bike it wasnt bogging, but i dont know what octane gas they were using. I also crashed and my bike flipped and stuff, thats when i kinda started to notice it. Would that mess anything up?

Im using regular pump gas and mixing 32:1. Ill email the other owner and ask how high of octane gas he was using

Kicking around the idea of selling my CR250. I have other bikes and never get a chance to ride this one.

This is a well-maintained bike with tons of aftermarket parts. It's set up primarily for woods/single-track riding, but will still do just fine on an MX track.

      Engine:
      -Fresh Pro-X top end(<1 hour)
-FMF Gnarly pipe & FMF Shorty silencer(<1 hour on fresh packing)
-PWK Air-Striker Carburetor(bought new from JD Jetting last year)
      -Steahy 10oz. Flywheel Weight
-Boyesen Rad Valve with Carbon-fiber reeds
      -TwinAir air filter

      Misc:
      -Excel Pro-Series Wheels(19"/21")
-Brand-new Shinko tires(546 Front, 505 Cheater Rear not mounted yet) w/ Heavy-duty tubes
      -Works Connection Radiator Guards
      -Skid Plate
      -FMF Factory 909 Handlebars
      -Polished Frame
-Sunstar 13/51 Steel Sprockets(new in box)

I'm sure I'm missing a few odds and ends. Comes with a Bill of Sale only. (708)287-1998 - Dave

      Hello,
I could not seem to find a similar thread so if one exists I apologize. I have an 02 cr250r with an 01 motor. I need to buy a new silencer with a spark arrestor because the current one does not have one. I am not sure if the owner before me used an 01 or 02 silencer because I have read the frame had significant changes from 01 to 02. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I want to restore a 1996 cr80 that doesn’t have any graphics and absolutely love the 1994 cr125r tank shroud graphics, I can’t seem to find anything that fits the cr80 with those graphics. I found one last week but lost the page and couldn’t track it down again, do the cr125r graphics fit the cr80 tank shrouds? or does anyone know where someone could make them for cheap or know about any in Australia

      Hey guys,

Could someone please explain the numbers on a needle jet for a mikuni carb?  I'm currently running a 38-73 needle but a lot of the people I talk to say I would be happier running a 38-70 needle.  I don't have a problem with going with what other recommend but I would like to understand the numbering for the needles first.  I understand the nozzle sizes, main jet and pilot jet it's just this damn needle thingamobob

      Thanks a lot
