06 oil looking glass? dipstick?

hey just picked up an 06 crf 450r from the dealer. absolutely love it, n just signed up to the site. was just wondering the proper way to check the engine oil. cuz all i can fiind anywher is to check the looking glass, but this year, or maybe this bike doesnt have one. just a dipstick...

?? Either its a CRF X model or someone has changed the case?? Left side of bike should have a sight glass just behind the oil filter and a Check bolt on the right case for the tranny side etc.

lmao. it is an X. checked the serial sticker. swear the salesman said it was the R. Am actually a bit happier. So do u check the oil by screwing in the dipstick? or not. n dus it have to be plum? or on the stand?

n good call.

needs to be run till warmed up then leave for 2/3 mins before being 'dipped' don't screw it down and sat on level ground (not on the sidestand)

don't be tempted to overfill it !!!

The early X's benefit from approx 950ml in the tranny side :smirk:

PS. now go to the 450x forum:moon:

haha thanks bro, what are the differences between the x and r? besides the headlight and starter.. is this thing gonna be able to handle jumps? cus its definately a bit stiffer. I started a thread in the X section but thouight maybe u have had experience on the X aswell..

so ud say about half way between the 2 lines ? n what the heck does MEY mean? I hope the markings on the dipstick are what i think they are.

The are 2 lines on the dip stick, bottom is low, top is full... Add oil until its close to the full line. Put a full quart of oil in the transmission side, and you can pretty much forget about it. There's a screw on the right side you can remove to check the level. but with the full quart, oil will start flowing out. The X also has a wider gear ratio relative to the R
