Carb leaks after rebuild

Recommended Posts

I recent had my carb apart in order to clean it. The carb is clean inside and out, but it now leaks when I turn the gas on. What could cause this?

Thanks

Float level too high, poor gasket seal on the float bowl, cracked fuel line. Where on the carb is it leaking? The bowl, overflow, throat?

It is leaking out of the overflow

If it is leaking out the overflow, then the most likely problem is the floats are not set correctly.

float got whacked out of line. Check that the tab is sitting below the wire on the needle valve. Somehow mine got stuck on the outside of the wire, which caused the whole float to get stuck.

The carb doesn't leak anymore, so that's good. My jetting is off, though, so I'd like to make sure my float bowl is set correctly. What is the proper float bowl setting for an 05 yz125? And what do you guys use to measure it?

Use the method in the manual: http://www.yamahaownershandbook.com.au/lib/download.php?f=1C3-28199-30.pdf

10mm above the mating surface using a clear tube after filling the carb with gas. (pg 4-11 above). Measure at the bottom of the meniscus. Messy if you need to adjust it. It's not like an FCR where you turn it upside down and eyeball the float.
