Gday Peoples

Just done rebuild on DRZ400, things seem to working well at this stage, but have a couple of things i am not sure of.

1. when it is idling and i give it a quick crack of the throttle i get a slight lag and a puff of darkish smoke! I have installed a Yoshi pipe K&N air filter. I jetted according to Yoshi recommendation. Any thoughts??

2. I notice the header pipe glowing quite a bit last night when it had been idling for about 3-4 minute. Is this normal?

Cheers

You might want to mention that you have fitted the 464 crank and piston kit. :smirk:

It seems to run ok during the small amount of K's done on the streets, i just finished rebuilding the motor. Rebuilt using a 465 strocker kit bought from the US, installed Yoshi pipe and K&N air filter before rebuild, i replaced main jet with a 168 and raised by 1 notch as instructed by Yoshi.

Hope this gives you a good picture of what i am dealing with.

Cheers

So is that the stock carb you are using?....

Which Yoshi pipe?..What Cams?..Valves?...What model DRZ?

Have you done 3x3 mod?..What altitude is the bike mostly ridden at???

Does it accelerate ok from small throttle openings thru to wide open throttle?

Need more info on your set up to give better advice....

Gday

Yoshi pipe is RS-3 Oval

Standard Cams

Standard Valves

2006E Model

No 3x3 mod

0- 300 mtr above

Have not given bike a lot of welly yet, but during initial test ride when going through the gears and accelerating on resonse seemed crisp. When i got back from ride i had the bike idling on the stand and i was giving some quick twists, ok when only small opening, when i gave it a bit more of a handfull it gave a small back fire and puff of darkish smoke.??

Cheers

Remove snorkel in top of air box to achieve equivalent to 3x3 mod..

Do the Eddie mod..http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=890079&highlight=eddie+mod

Try a 155 mj , stock dxp needle on clip 5 or emn needle clip 3...

See how it runs when you take it for a decent ride....if it still has stumble/hesitation under load you may need to go 1 clip leaner...

When jetted correctly you will have some hesitation when free revving..

The stock carb , E cams and valves will limit your top end hp....

      Hey all,
I'm looking at buying a 2004 Suzuki DRZ400EK or at least I think it's an EK according to Vin lookup websites, but it does not appear to have a kickstarter. I was told the bike was owned by a motorcycle dealer and that it has a current green sticker, and a California license plate but has not been registered for the streets since 2011. I want this as a dual sport but am not clear if the fact that it already has a plate means I am good to register it or if maybe they took away the ability to register it after it was plated, California loves to do that kind of stuff. Since the bike was owned by a dealer I would think they were up on the latest regulations in California, but who knows. Can anyone add any insight as to what I should look for on the bike itself like the carburetor, model numbers etc? Or do I just try my luck at the DMV?

      Hi,
I have a 2003 DRZ (actually a KLX400) and the head tube bearings are shot.  I ordered a new set to install but I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on other parts I should replace while I have the front disassembled.  I was thinking about new rubber fork protectors, but are there other things that wear out on the DRZ front ends that you can only get to when disassambled?
I also broke off a replacement key that I got for the steering lock.  I must have been made of cheap pot-metal.  Should I just remove the whole lock mechanism?
Any tips or tricks for getting the old bearings out and the new ones in would be welcome!
      Thanks!

      Hey Guys,
I recently bought a 2003 DRZ400S and thought it would be a good idea to check the valves clearance etc . I timed the engine on TDC with the magneto mark aligned as per the manual but I find the cam timing slightly odd. The arrows pointing upward are on the 1st and 15th pin as they should but with the magneto timing mark aligned they are not perfectly straight. Same goes for the arrows that should be parallel to the cylinder head casing. Is this normal or should they be absolutely perfect ?
