XR400 Cracked Case at Oil Drain

Recommended Posts

Whats the fix for my cracked case at my oil drain hole? I torqued my drain plug too far and cracked the case at the bottom of the threads for the drain plug.

You cracked the case or you stripped the threads? Helicoil? :smirk:

If you're sure it's a crack and not a casting mark that you didn't happen to notice beforehand, then I think the first thing I'd try is patch the area with J B Weld and fiberglass cloth.

I definitely cracked the case at the bottom of where the bolt screws in. I am sure its a crack, oil is leaking out like mad.

As long as the threads will still hold the drain plug securely, TR42's JB/cloth suggestion should work.
