This cant be normal!

Recommended Posts

The bike is a 2005 YZ450

So I decided to start carefully diving into the bike and start doing the work and maintenance myself. I started my first oil change and need a bit of help. I just recently ordered my service manual so unfortunately I cannot refer to it.

After letting the engine warm up for a minute or two I shut her off, and removed the dip-stick from the steering frame area, and it looked pretty dry. I get to removing the engine fill cap, and take the oil filter and cap off, and let it drain for a while. I put the new filter in and and start screwing everything back in. I go to the dipstick and its almost topped off! Thats when I stopped and came and asked for help here. Im pretty sure this is not normal? What do I do?

Thanks in advance!

Only thing I can think of is much of the oil on the first check was in the top end and when you let it sit, gravity fed it back down into the reservoir/case. I'm sure the manual has info on whether the oil check is supposed to be done cold or after warming.
