50 vs 51t rear

I've had a 50t sitting around for over a year that I had when I run a 270 kit, now i have a stock piston I'm wondering how the 50t will work. How different is a 50 from a 51? I ride only mx tracks. I liked the 50 with the 270 cause I could carry gears longer and use 3rd through most corners. I don't feel like buying another sprocket when I have a brand new 50 still in packaging.

The 50T will have a little less punch out of the hole compared to the 51T. You will gain a little more top end. With gearing, you always sacrifice one for the other.

so would it be worth it to get a 51 for a mid jr rider?

You have the 50. Throw it on and try it.
