Why year is my engine?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I just bought this Kx250. The motor was out of the frame. I went to put it in and i realized that it didnt fit. Some of the brackets didnt line up correctly and the frame is right in the way of the exhaust port. The guy said it was a 90'. I looked up the frame VIN # and it came out to be a 1990 KX250. I was guessing that the engine was a different year on account that it didnt fit into the frame. I looked up an OEM 1990 motor and there was some slight differences.

Does anyone think they can decode an engine number? If so please help.

The number is (KX250CF002696)

Thanks

Call your local shop and give them your engine number. They will tell you what year it is.

Could it say KX250CE...? If it has a C, I think that is 1983 or 1984. Can you post some pictures?

Yeah im pretty sure you're right. I just looked up an oem motor and it looks the same. Whats with the CE, is it like a special model or something?

Ill post some pics later today or tomorrow just to make sure.

There were many different model series, A, B, C, D (1985 and 1986), E (1987), F, G, H, J, K, L, M, R and then they switched to a different naming style for 2006+.
