Piston to Bore Clearance

Recommended Posts

Going to strip down the Drz barrel because she is using quite a bit of oil , what should the piston to bore clearance be ? also what's the ideal piston ring gap ?

Also this time im getting the piston coated. A friend works for Ilmor he puts together the F1 engines for Mercedes we can measure the thickness of the coating that is sprayed on , what the motor needs will stay on the the motor doesn't will be worn off. :smirk:

Stock Piston skirt clearance .0015" original clearance and .005" maximum wear limit.

Measure piston 1/4" from the bottom of the skirt..

Shiny areas on the sides of the piston are tell tale signs of piston wear...

Discoloration between ring grooves is a sign of worn rings..

Piston ring end gap (Standard 0.08mm - 0.20mm) Limit 0.50mm

He is most likely talking about HPC coating....

There cracks were the piston skirt is breaking up !!!!!!!! never seen this before on a forged piston esp a JE piston. The piston looks mint apart from this also does not appear to be any big blowby past the rings indicating the amount of oil it was using. Again got pics if u want me to post them up.:smirk:
