Stripped the head and barrel off this afternoon only to find the skirt of the piston both sides split !!! this is on the inlet side *** is going on i never thrash the hell out of it but do use the revs and cruise at 70-75 with 15/38. forgot to say this is a M/T 436 kit using a JE Piston i think its done around 7000 miles.

Were you getting any noticeable pinging?

Have you changed your fuel supply, maybe a lower grade/octane.

Engine quite well as quite as a Drz can be , no piston slap or any other noise always use BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax so always 98 + RON.

Why did you pull the motor down to start with?

Was it just a routine strip down?

If there is no damage to the bore, there is no reason why you can't just replace the piston and rings and reassemble.

I'm sure someone with more DRZ experience will have a hypothesis as to what has caused it.

Its been using quite a bit of oil lately plus when im behind on a friends bike it puffs the odd blue smoke out. This was to just hone and re-ring it.

Need to know why ? is it a production issue ? no bore damage at all really need the big guy to see what his take on it is .

The finished edges out to the skirt look quite sharp, could have caused stress fractures.

I'd expect a JE to have a better finish.
