04 kx 250 loosing coolant thru overflow.

Recommended Posts

Purchased a clean low hour 04 KX 250 two stroke. Having a problem with coolant loss thru overflow. Add about 4 oz. after two motos. Replaced head gasket, tried a 1.1 and 1.6 radiator cap. Trans. oil looks normal. Still leaks. thanks for any input.

There's a few posts about this but not a common search for most.

Ok, here's the deal, many/most bikes will have there happy medium of coolant level. fill it allow it to blow out. It should end up at or just below the top cells. If it continues to lose more and more, then you have an issue. Otherwise almost every bike will blow out what it doesn't need then never blow out any more. Remember 2 strokes will spin up to 18-19,000 rpm and that really spins that waterpump, in turn puts some pressure along with the temp pressures adding to it.

All my KX's are/were the same way.

4 Strokes don't have that problem if you get one I'll put you back on speed dial . See ya at the track.

WOW, guess I'm not on speed dial either
