California Dog Valley USFS Land Use Meeting

Recommended Posts

I know this should probably go into land use but I know it gets more visibility here. For those of you who don't know where Dog Valley is, it is NE of Truckee against the CA/NV border

Meeting Set for Public Comments about Dog Valley Transportation System

CARSON CITY, Nevada…The Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is seeking comments on a proposal to adjust the transportation system in the Dog Valley area. Dog Valley is located around 10 miles northwest of Reno in the eastern portion of Sierra County, California. Dog Valley is a popular recreational area for camping and back country drives.

Transportation system changes may add existing routes to the District’s Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM), which provides access to the National Forest in Dog Valley. Routes may also be decommissioned if they are no longer needed or are causing resource damage to its unique meadow and forest environment. Following these adjustments, the MVUM will be updated and the public will be able to access the approved routes.

“In 2008, when we published the first Motor Vehicle Use Maps, we knew future corrections would occur,” said Genny Wilson, Carson District Ranger. “Now that we have spent some time assessing how our visitors enjoy this area, we can begin discussing changes with our visitors” Wilson stated. “Access to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Sierra County, California is limited because there are few public access points through private lands surrounding the Forest. We have identified many of the area’s existing dispersed campsites to add to the map, as well as some trails that provide access”.

The opportunity to comment on the proposed action will last 30 days, according to regulations at 36 CFR 215. To begin the scoping process for this project, the District is holding a public meeting on June 6, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Verdi Elementary in Verdi, Nevada. If you want to receive information regarding this project, or learn how to submit comments, contact the Carson Ranger District at 775-882-2766.

The District Ranger and staff will be available to discuss this project with the public; related documents and maps depicting the project area and proposals will be distributed. Learn more about this release by contacting the Carson Ranger District at 775-882-2766.
