Rebar, don't fear riding your bike. While some have had issues and come up with all of these great resources for the fixes, the DRZ is a reliable bike and you shouldn't worry about running it stock.

My DRZ has over 10 thousand miles on it (2005 S model) and it does NOT have any Loctite fixes, manual timing chain adjusters, super start mods, etc. I put a solid skid plate on it, radiator braces/guards, case cover armor, FCR39 and you basic off-road upgrades. I have put the spurs to this bike off-road and now with a new Motard conversion set-up, I am laying down the rubber on the tarmac as well.

This past weekend I put a new chain and sprockets on it, so I did the loctite thing while I was in there, but it did fine for the first 10k miles.

The point is you can ease into some of these things. These aren't requirements that you need to perform before you start riding the bike. They are just recommended mods to keep your mind at ease for years/thousands of miles of enjoyment.

The point to the list I offered was in reply to your question. Not to say the bike will self destruct if you ride it before you do those things.

It's simple, some will know what has been shown to go wrong, the consequences of that thing going wrong, know what is available to mitigate that risk and still choose to ignore the advice and ride. Thats a choice.

Others will realize everything on that list above can be done in a day by an accomplished home mechanic, faster by a pro and a few days at most by basic one.

So,you can spend a day or two addressing known issues before they become problems or you can choose not to and deal with it if or when something happens.

To most the cost and down time caused by those known issues happening greatly exceeds the time and cost associated to making the reliability fixs.. So they choose to do them.

In the end it's the bike owners choice.

I bought a pretty beat up 2000 model two years ago and it didn't have any of the fixes mentioned. Needless to say the bike hasn't had failures to those components in 10 years even after a rough life in the deserts of Baja and SoCal.

I'm working thru the loctite fixes but that doesn't keep me from riding.

And you have it in a good common sense order of precedence. Obviously you can combine some of those jobs at once, you can do some without waiting on parts (44) so they can be done sooner, even though really a lower precedence..

Nice work.
