98 Kx250 top end. what in sam hell do I have?

just got this 98 kx250. jug says "KIPS" on the side. My neighbor (a kawasaki fanatic) says they only stamped "KIPS" on kx500's. I googled 98 kx250's and couldn't find one that had "KIPS" on the jug. any of you guys know what i have? is it a standard 250 jug?

i have a 98 kx 250 and it doesnt have kips stamped on it but i did read somewhere on here a number that was stamped on the 98 jugs not sure where it was

Looks like the standard 250 pipe to me.

my kdx 200 had kips on it and so does my sisters, i have a funny feeling the kdx 250 deos too, it might be one of them?

98 heads are round yours looks like it stretches out in the front.

Can you post a larger picture?

Looks like a 91-ish 250 cylinder on a later case.

Man, could be. I couldn't find early 90's heads that have KIPS on it either. I'm perplexed. Could be a KDX like was mentioned earlier.

98 & 99 KX250's used cylinder 1851. That number is the last 4 digits of the part number. You'll see that alot on some parts. The actual part number is 11005-1851. 11005 is basically a number that groups parts together, so many cylinders part number begins with 11005. My 94 cylinder is 11005-1722, so "1722" is cast into the side of my cylinder correctly identifying it as a 94 cylinder.

If you buy a cylinder off Ebay make sure you email them for the casting number since alot of these parts swap over (as you already know) so if it came off a 98 chassis, you might get a 01 cylinder.

I have 1793 on mine so i take it its not a 98 jug how would i go about finding out what its from ???

1996 kx250-k3 (11005-1793)

1996 kx250-k3 (11005-1793)

so i have a 96 jug on it that suxs then the bike was sold to a mate as a 2001 model then i find out its a 98 and now its got a 96 jug on it so when i do a top end do i order a 96 top end kit ??? or are they interchngeable:banghead:

That's definately NOT a 96 cylinder. It has the old egg shaped head...it's an early 90's KX250 or KDX cylinder.

You need to post a larger picture, and a few of them. Also, look on the right side of the crank case, above the clutch cover for the case number and post that. They will determine what year case you have. It looks like it could be a 1991 KX250 engine. That model had the egg-shaped head but the newer style ignition cover. It's hard to see the pic you posted. So a larger pic or case numbers is better.

You confused the thread a little. Your cylinder should be a 96 like kdx said, how about posting a pic?

It sounds like a 1998, with a 1996 cylinder. Some might call it an intended modification, or it could be...

it happened on a dark night... in a hidden place... when the moon was just right... the garage door opened and ...
