1985 xt600

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I just bought a 1985 xt600. Totally stock from the first owner. it has 11000 miles on it and runs well. I was hoping some one could tell me how to properly adjust the decompression cable as I think it is not right. Most of the time it is so hard to start. Also generally speaking what does a super clean one go for?

thanks a lot

Mark

sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. Not sure if it should be under vintage>

HI to adjust the decompression valve you will need to remove the plug make sure your at TDC spin the crank by hand to the t-marks on the crank, all valves shoul be loose if not spin the crank 180 then chk, all should be loose... then loosen the adjustment cable and chk the free play at the tip of the decompression cam lever it should be (0.5mm 0.02 in) adjust until the proper clearance is achieved... Dont forget to chk the O-rings at the timing cover holes for hardness or deterioration
