Consequences for putting in too much oil?

Recommended Posts

I've heard you can blow out seals and gaskets, but i'm not sure if this is true. Anybody had any experiences with this? I didnt do it, but its hard to tell how much more to put in on my bike.

Thanks

I used to over fill my sxf450 all the time. It pushed oil out of the countershaft and valve cover until it reached the right amount lol. I never had any other issues so my assumption is it should be fine. I would just tell you to measure it and call it good, normally its 1100cc for a 450.

it will also blow oil out the crank case vents on some bikes then putting oil all into the air box so dirt can stick to it and make a good mess. i just say use the right amount of oil to start with and check it before you ride because these new bikes tend to consume a little oil

Besides blowing out gaskets and seals, over filled oil can foam. Foaming oil looses it’s lubricating qualities.
