2009 250sxf - Curious....

I am keen to hear your thoughts on this used 2009 250sxf?

Only planning on using it for mx play (and not race).

I am curious on the benefits on buying a modded bike (especially the engine work that is being referred to in this add) by the factory and raced.

Or, would this be a ticking time bomb?

Any benefits of a carb model vs the newer efi models?

Sure looks nice. Hours are low and if it looks like it is modded to perform. It looks like a good rig for practicing moto. Be sure to contact the seller about the extent of the motor work and also make sure the suspension has been revalved since its supercross use.:smashpc:

Thanks.

Exactly what should I be asking about the extent of the motor work?

What re-valving shoudl I be expecting?

WOudl this bike be hard to kick start when hot?

I have an '08 250 sx-f and it's a really fun bike.

Kicking it though... You are going to hate yourself for buying the bike at first, but after you get the kicking method down, then it starts extremely easily, so don't be discouraged if it takes you a while at first, and keep up with getting the valves checked. I just had mine in the woods, and it started first kick 4 out of 5 times today, and one time it 2 kicks.

Just make sure you get the valves adjusted maybe twice a year, change oil+filter regularly, clean the air filter, and you should be good.

I bought mine in 2008, I ride almost every other weekend, race frequently, and it still has good compression.

OK - This is an updated link for this bike.

I have made the deal (at $5,500 AUD), and this bike will soon be in my garage!

Before any money is deposited though, the bike will be going into the seller's local KTM dealer for a check over to make sure bike is in sound condition - as an agreed condition of sale.

I would like to create a bullet point check list for this dealer, and now ask for your insights and experience to help me create this check list.

I basically have 48 hours from now before the bike enters the dealership.

Thoughts?

thanks Throttlejockey.

What is a leak down test and where is it applied?

What specifications for valve clearance should I be expecting?

ANy others have any other bullet point checks?

Thanks.

I am assuming a PASS is for no air to leak past the rings/valves?

If not, what is an acceptable leak rate?

BTW, the seller stated that he replaced rings 5 riding hours ago.
